Last minute changes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * New SAS/C 6.51 compiled version Shortly before releasing the distribution, my new SAS/C 6.50 compiler (and 6.51 patch) arrived. This compiler has some exciting new optimization options and includes many improvements of the existing optimizer. For the first time in the history of PowerCache, the differences between the 020/030/040 executables were signifficant enough to justify including these versions in the distribution archive. Thus, you will find two new executables named PowerCache.030 and PowerCache.040 resp. The installation scripts have been modified to accomodate these two new versions. If you have an A4000/030, or a 68030 accellerator board (such as the A530 unit for the A500), you should use the new 68030 version for maximum efficiency. A4000 users and users with 68040 accellerators should go for the 68040 version. For a complete list of all popular machines and their CPU types, have a look at the "hardware requirements" section in the manual. All versions (68000-68040) were compiled with the new schedule optimizer enabled, which gives 68040 users an extra boost regardless of which version they use. Because of the extra optimization, the benchmark section in the manual is not completely up to date. If you did a test with the version in this distribution, you would probably end up with better results than those illustrated in the benchmark section. * Installation scripts The inclusion of the new 68030 and 68040 versions came at such a late stage that it was impossible for me to obtain all the necessary new strings for the installation scripts from the various translators. Some of the text in the script is therefore still in english regardless of what language you choose. I apologise for the inconvenience.
